Cane Care
Canes that do not have a high gloss finish: Each cane has been soaked in mineral oil, hand sanded, and polished with fine grit sandpaper. To keep your cane happy and looking good, canemaster Shuey recommends you use the following maintenance procedures:
Every other week for the first few months, wipe down your cane/stick with mineral oil and a soft cloth; sand first with 400-grit wet/dry sandpaper. Wipe down the cane again, and sand with 600-grit wet/dry. Once more, wipe down with mineral oil. After that, we recommend using a 1500-grit wet/dry sandpaper and mineral oil once a month. This will keep your cane from drying out and cracking and give it a high polished shine. Important Note: If your cane has been treated with tung oil, and has a high gloss finish it needs no care other than an occasional rubdown with mineral oil. Do not use sandpaper on this finish, because it will dull its appearance.
